Plain-chant hispanique<\/h2>\n

Le colloque portera sur le chant hispanique (souvent appel\u00e9 mozarabe), du plus ancien r\u00e9pertoire conserv\u00e9 dans les manuscrits m\u00e9di\u00e9vaux jusqu’aux diverses tentatives de r\u00e9novations entreprises \u00e0 partir du <\/span><\/span>XV<\/span><\/span>e<\/span><\/span><\/sup> si\u00e8cle.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Les participants auront l’occasion de se familiariser avec ce r\u00e9pertoire lors d’ateliers pratiques dirig\u00e9s par Juan Carlos Asensio Palacios, directeur de la Schola Antiqua de Madrid et musicologue r\u00e9put\u00e9. M. Asensio partagera \u00e9galement ses connaissances de l’histoire du chant liturgique hispanique, de ses sources manuscrites et des efforts d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s pour le faire revivre.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Le colloque se terminera l’apr\u00e8s-midi du 11 ao\u00fbt par un concert <\/span><\/span>Chant hispanique et orgue<\/i><\/span><\/span> pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 dans l’\u00e9glise abbatiale de Saint-Beno\u00eet-du Lac. Les participants y pr\u00e9senteront, sous la direction de M. Asensio, le r\u00e9sultat du travail r\u00e9alis\u00e9 au cours du week-end. L’organiste dom Richard Gagn\u00e9 improvisera \u00e0 l’orgue sur les chants interpr\u00e9t\u00e9s par les participants au colloque.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

JUAN CARLOS ASENSIO PALACIOS a fait ses premi\u00e8res \u00e9tudes \u00e0 l’abbaye b\u00e9n\u00e9dictine Santa Cruz del Valle de los Ca\u00eddos. Il a par la suite \u00e9tudi\u00e9 au Conservatoire royal de Madrid. Il contribue au R\u00e9pertoire international des sources musicales <\/i>(RISM<\/i>), a publi\u00e9 de nombreux articles dans des revues sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es et a pr\u00e9par\u00e9 l’\u00e9dition du C\u00f3dice de Madrid<\/i> ainsi que celle du Codex de Las Huelgas<\/i>. Il a \u00e9galement publi\u00e9, aux \u00e9ditions Alianza, une monographie intitul\u00e9e El Canto Gregoriano<\/i>. Asensio poursuit sa collaboration avec l’Atelier de pal\u00e9ographie musicale de l’abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes (France). Durant plusieurs ann\u00e9es il a occup\u00e9 le poste de professeur de musicologie au Conservatoire royal, \u00e0 Salamanque. Il occupe pr\u00e9sentement le poste de professeur de musicologie \u00e0 l’\u00c9cole sup\u00e9rieure de musique de Barcelone ainsi qu’au Conservatoire royal de Madrid. Depuis 1996, il est directeur de la Schola Antiqua et est membre, depuis 2001, du Conseil de direction de l’Association internationnale pour l’\u00e9tude du chant gr\u00e9gorien (AISCGre). De plus, il est chercheur associ\u00e9 au CILengua, membre du groupe Bibliopegia<\/i> et directeur de la revue sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 Estudios Gregorianos<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Dom Richard Gagn\u00e9 est moine b\u00e9n\u00e9dictin \u00e0 l\u2019abbaye de Saint-Beno\u00eet-du-Lac o\u00f9 il occupe depuis 2003 la fonction de ma\u00eetre de ch\u0153ur. Entr\u00e9 au monast\u00e8re en 1976, dom Gagn\u00e9 est \u00e9galement un des organistes de l\u2019abbaye. Il a fait ses \u00e9tudes musicales en orgue et en \u00e9criture au Conservatoire de musique de Qu\u00e9bec. De plus, il a re\u00e7u l\u2019essentiel de sa formation d\u2019improvisateur aupr\u00e8s de Raymond Daveluy. De 1996 \u00e0 2003, il a succ\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 dom Jean Claire comme ma\u00eetre de ch\u0153ur de l\u2019abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes o\u00f9 il fut \u00e9galement organiste titulaire \u00e0 partir de 1998.<\/p>\n

Hispanic Plainchant<\/h2>\n

The colloquium centres on Hispanic chant (often called Mozarabic chant), from the most ancient repertoire preserved in medieval manuscripts to the many attempts at revival from the 15th century onwards. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Participants will have the opportunity to acquaint themselves with this repertoire through workshops conducted by Juan Carlos Asensio Palacios, Director of the Schola Antiqua of Madrid and a renowned musicologist. Mr. Asensio will also share his knowledge of the history of Hispanic liturgical chant, its manuscript sources, and efforts aimed at its revival.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The colloquium will conclude on August 11 in the afternoon with a concert of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Hispanic Chant and Organ<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span> presented in the abbatial church of Saint-Beno\u00eet-du-Lac. Under the direction of Mr. Asensio, participants will present the fruit of the work they have accomplished over the course of the weekend. Organist Dom Richard Gagn\u00e9 will improvise at the organ on chants performed by Colloquium participants. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

JUAN CARLOS ASENSIO PALACIOS<\/span><\/p>\n

His early studies at the choir school of the benedictine Abbey of Santa Cruz del Valle de los Ca\u00eddos were continued at the Royal Conservatory in Madrid. He is a contributor to the <\/span>R\u00e9pertoire international des sources musicales <\/i><\/span>(<\/span>RISM<\/i><\/span>). He has published numerous articles in specialized journals, and published editions of both the <\/span>C\u00f3dice de Madrid<\/i><\/span> and the <\/span>Las Huelgas Codex<\/i><\/span>. He also published a monograph for Alianza Editorial entitled <\/span>El Canto Gregoriano<\/i><\/span>. Asensio continues to collaborate with the Atelier de pal\u00e9ographie musicale at the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Solesmes (France). For several years he served as professor of musicology at the Royal Conservatory, in Salamanca. Juan Carlos currently holds dual appointment as professor of musicology at Barcelona\u2019s Escola Superior de M\u00fasica as well as at Madrid\u2019s Royal Conservatory. He has directed the Schola Antiqua since 1996, and since 2001 he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the <\/span>International Association for Studies of Gregorian Chant <\/span>(AISCGre). In addition, he is associated researcher with CILengua, a member of the study group <\/span>Bibliopegia<\/i><\/span>, and editor of the scholarly journal <\/span>Estudios Gregorianos<\/i><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dom Richard Gagn\u00e9 embraced monastic life in 1976 and is a Benedictine monk at the Abbey of Saint-Beno\u00eet-du-Lac. He has served there as Choirmaster since 2003 and also as one of the monastery\u2019s organists. He studied organ and composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Qu\u00e9bec, in addition to learning improvisation, for the most part with Raymond Daveluy. From 1996 to 2003 he succeeded Dom Jean Claire as Choirmaster of the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Solesmes, and served as that institution\u2019s organist starting in 1998.<\/p>\n
