Gregorian Essentials and Popular

 

The Schola Antiqua of Spain, under the direction of Juan Carlos Asensio, recently took part in a two separate CD recordings featuring some of the Gregorian chant essentials, and several chants among the most popular ones. Important contribution by Neil K. Moran

 

Neil K. Moran, from Toronto, has revised and translated Constantin Floros' book The Origins of Russian Music - Introduction to the Kondakarian Notation, published by Peter Lang (Frankfurt am Main, Berlin, Bern, Bruxelles, New York, Oxford, Wien), 2009. Mr Moran has also contributed a chapter on Relationships between Latin, Byzantine, and Slavonic Church Music.

News from Hamilton Schola Cantorum

 

Hamilton Schola Cantorum (HSC) has been active since September 2008. We practice weekly and sing services and concerts in the Hamilton region. HSC has aproximately twelve members, pleased to be able to sing the full Gregorian Chant ordinary and propers for the Tridentine Mass at Saint Mary's RC Church, 146 Park Street North Hamilton, on the first and third Sundays of the month at 2:30 p.m.  We also sing on the Fifth Sunday of the month at 2:30 p.m.,  at St. Lawrence RC church, 475 Mary Street North, Hamilton. HSC was pleased to be part of the GIC 2009 congress in Hamilton.   On November 2, 2009 we had the privildge of singing the Gregorian Requiem for All Souls at Saint Patrick's Church, Hamilton. We are grateful to the Abbot and Monks of Our Lady of Glastonbury Abbey, Hamilton for welcoming us to their Monastery for schola practices, and to sing on the occasion of the Orthodox celebration of the Midnight Mass of Christmas.

News from Saguenay's Choeur grégorien Una Voce

 

Saguenay's Choeur grégorien Una Voce has achieved its goal for the 2008-2009 season, that is to sing Mass once a month at Chicoutimi's Monastère du Très-Saint-Sacrement.  In conclusion to their season, the choir sang Vespers for the first time at the same monastery.  The Office, at which three diocesan priests attended, was presided by Mgr Jean-Guy Couture, former Bishop for the Diocese of Chicoutimi.

 

Since September 2009, the 28 male and female choristers of Una Voce Gregorian Choir of Saguenay are singing Mass once a month at Christ-Roi Church in Chicoutimi. Una Voce is preparing to host the 5th Annual Colloquium of the Gregorian Institute of Canada, which will be held from August 12th to 15th, 2010, in Chicoutimi.
